GROUP RULES 2005
Updated July 2009
Dear CT&T Member,
It is very important to both
read and understand the Group Rules. One of the
reasons that CT&T is the friendly easy Group that it is, is due to the Rules
and the fact that the rules are enforced.
Some of the Rules are requirements of Yahoo, some
are the requirements of the Group Owners and Moderators and some are nothing
more than the every day common courtesies and pleasantries that we should
both give and expect.
A; All posts to the group should include both a
salutation and a signature,
(Dear Group, Hi All, Hi (insert members name), when replying to an
individual member.) and signed with your name or nickname.
B; We require that you use a
proper name or nick name for this Group
and we would far prefer that if you use a nick name it resembles a real
name. The Moderators and Members of CT&T prefer to address people with a
real name and are far more likely to respond to a real name, as it is far
more friendly. If you don’t want to use a real name, then please make sure
that your nickname is appropriate for a family oriented group. The use of
nicknames such as QWE123 or XYX987 are strongly discouraged.
C; It is a requirement of CT&C that you either
have a correctly filled in Yahoo ID
or that you fill in a Members ID Form if requested to do so.
Updated 2008.....correctly filled refers to 'No Adult Material', and no
links to the same.
D; The Owners and Moderators of CT&C do not
endorse software piracy, booting, hacking or
cracking and we do not allow the discussion of these
subjects.
We do however allow the discussion of software such as 'Zone Alarm' or
other equivalent software that is used as a Firewall against hackers and
software such as Ad-aware for the purpose of cleaning out Spyware.
E; The use of bad
language or profanity is not allowed.
F; Cross posting
to or from other Yahoo Groups is not allowed.
G; We ask that when you have been helped, that
you acknowledge this with a ‘Thank you’ post.
If the advice offered did not help, please give feed back on this and
further help and research will be offered. If you managed to resolve the
problem yourself, please post details of how you did this.
H; When
recommending an application or program, please state if you
have used it and can give assistance in the use of it.
I; When posting
advice to another Member, please state if what you are
saying is, a Fact, Opinion or Assumption.
J; When offering
help, please give as much information as possible. Making a
statement like, ‘search the Internet for help’ doesn't really help.
K; When posting a
link (URL) to a web site, for whatever reason, please check
out the web site to make sure that it is a; not infected, b; does provide
the information claimed and is not a link to another web site offering
something else. If you are unsure how to do this, contact the Moderators and
ask them to help. Do Not Post Links to other Groups. We recommend you do not
post entire web page Articles, this leads to
problems with copyright issues.
L; When a difficult problem is being handled by
a Member or a Moderator, please do not jump in
and confuse the sequence of events. When a problem is
proving to be difficult to resolve, the Member and / or Moderator working on
it will throw it open for all Members to offer suggestions.
M; Do not take problems off Group or ask members
or moderators for private help. If you are experiencing any problems with a
Member contacting you off Group or ‘flaming’ you, please contact the
Moderators.
N; We do not allow the posting of
links to Personal Web Sites or other Yahoo Groups.
We have encountered some problems in the past with this and in the best
interest of everyone, we ask you do not. The Owners and Moderators may
decide that a link will be used however if it is considered safe and will
help a member with a problem in an ongoing thread.
O; If you use signature tags on your e-mail
please check before posting that there are no links to Web Sites or Groups.
Please ensure that tags are appropriate for a
family oriented group. Tags that contain advertisements to
services or links to web pages are not permitted.
P; It is the considered opinion of the Owner and
Moderators of CTT that stealing music or other
types of files by P2P File-sharing is both illegal and
morally wrong. Remember, this is our opinion. The Owner and Moderators of
CTT do not condone any illegal activities. In addition, CTT is not the Group
to discuss the rights or wrongs of the music industry.
patches, and important Virus updates, but here at CT&T we feel it's best to let them take care of that part of things. Suggested Sites:
Phony E-mail, Alerts, information - 'Hoax Slayer':
http://www.hoax-slayer.com/
Virus Alerts, updated Virus information, Hack
Fixes, etc - 'MyTech':
http://www3.telus.net/mikebike/
R; Please be sure to shorten any long links in your posts, as they mess up the format and can become un-clickable only to create problems for many members who aren't familiar with this sort of thing. http://www.tinyurl.com is one that will create shorter workable links if you have a long link that you want to post.
As a courtesy and to save bandwidth, please trim long posts. For an example of trimming posts see:

There are many reasons why a Moderator may either modify, hold or reject a Post. All Moderated Yahoo Groups have Rules regarding posting, some of these Rules are Yahoo's Rules others are the individual Groups Rules. CT&T has a very strict set of Rules and the Moderators interpret and enforce these Rules rigorously.
Posts that may be modified by the Moderators include:
- Posts without salutations or signatures.
- Posts with links to personal Web Sites.
Posts that may be held by the Moderators include:
- Posts where a question needs research.
- Posts where the Moderators need to discuss the issue raised.
- Posts that do not add to, but may confuse, an issue that is being
dealt with by a Moderator.
- Posts with Links that need to be checked before letting through.
Posts that may be rejected by the Moderators include:
- Posts without salutations or signatures.
- Posts with links to personal Web Sites.
- Posts that do not add to, but may confuse, an issue that is being
dealt with by a Moderator.
- Posts with Links that are deemed by the Moderators to be unsuitable
for CT&T.
- Posts that in the view of the Moderators advocate unsound, unsafe or
dangerous practices.
- Posts that refer to, or ask for help with, software piracy, booting,
hacking or cracking.
- Posts that contain bad language or profanity.
- Posts that Flame the Members and / or the Moderators of CT&T.
Cross-Posts from other Yahoo Groups.
- Posts that discuss topics that are illegal or are considered by the
Moderators to be morally wrong.
- Posts that disagree with and want to argue about, the Group Rules or
Moderators decisions.
- Posts that have gone too far without trimming!
Sometimes, but not always, a Moderator may send a `Reject Notice'
explaining why a Post was rejected.
The above may seem to be harsh, however, the Owners and Moderators of CT&T have a duty to comply with the `Yahoo Groups' Rules, failure to do so can result in CT&T being shut down.
The Owners and Moderators of CT&T also have a duty of care to the Membership and it is through working in the background and enforcing the rules, that CT&T remains the happy, easy, family Group that it is.
Important!
If you disagree with any of the ‘Rules’ please carefully consider whether CT&T is the correct Group for you. The Owners and Moderators of CT&T will not discuss, debate, change or alter the Rules. Membership of CT&T is conditional upon Members working within the Rules. The Owners and Moderators reserve the right to refuse Membership and / or to withdraw Membership without explanation.
